The Art of Themed Photo Walls: Simple Ideas to Elevate Your Space

Transform your space and showcase your memories with easy, elevated photo wall themes that make it personal.

Imagine walking into a room and being greeted by a wall of photos that not only looks stunning but also tells your unique story. Themed photo collections allow you to curate meaningful moments, creating a display that brings joy every time you see it. The best part? It doesn't have to be complicated or time-consuming.

One Scene, Three Times

A recent client submitted holiday photos featuring the same scene at different times of day. The contrast between the harsh midday sun and the soft evening light was striking. This sparked an idea: choose one loved scene from each trip and capture it in the morning, noon, and evening. Over time, you'll create a visual journey showcasing how the light transforms a single spot. Imagine this theme threading through your travel memories, each scene evolving across locations and time. Late in the day light tends to be the most beautiful (‘golden hour’) but it’s also amazing how light changes a scene. If a sense of place is important to you,  the same scene, close to where you’re staying, shot early, at lunch and in the evening, will give you three beautiful images which will sit beautifully together.

Themes That Travel With You

Some themes are as portable as your passport. Photograph unique doorways, colourful boats, or even a specific house number wherever you go. One client has been capturing house number "19" in different cities—a quirky, personal touch. You could also focus on a favorite colour, letting it star in photos from various places. These themes tie seemingly unrelated locations together beautifully.

The theme here is ‘water’, what will yours be?

Family selfies over the years can be a theme… you’re always same distance from the camera so it has a super nice cohesion to it. Anything goes - the theme is up to you.

Timeless Family Themes

Family photos are timeless, but consistent framing elevates them further. Using the same frames and mounts, even as the moments change, transforms candid snapshots into a cohesive, curated set. The uniform presentation allows your loved ones to shine.

Old family photos can bring old stories up to date with new, more current generations. Just think about framing them all in the same way (same frame, same mount) to give them visual cohesion.

Tips to make it yours

  • Choose a simple, resonant theme like doorways, boats, or a specific color.

  • Start small and build over time.

  • Keep framing and mounts consistent for a polished, cohesive look.

  • Capture the same scene at different times for an evolving story.

  • Consider size, spacing, and balance when arranging photos on the wall. If you want more on this, we have an excellent guide by Sabrina Shortland to help.

  • Professional editing and giclee printing will elevate the final result. (We can help with this.)

This set was from a memorable Greek holiday which our client did as a set of 20 Photos first and from there chose six landscapes (in portrait!) to become Big Solo Prints which she then framed and hung as a set.
