The Importance of Your Photo Story

Research on the unexpected importance of sharing your photos.

How well do you know your life story? And why is that important?

It’s summed up in this ground-breaking study called ‘Do you know…?’ The research discovered that the single best predictor of a person’s emotional health and happiness is Story.

What do they mean by that?

The more a child knows of their family’s ‘story’ - “the stronger a child’s sense of control over their life, the higher their self-esteem”.

“When faced with a challenge, happy families, like happy people, just add a new chapter to their life story that shows them overcoming the hardship. This skill is particularly important for children, whose identity tends to get locked in during adolescence.

They conclude:

if you want a happier family, create, refine and retell the story of your family’s positive moments and your ability to bounce back from the difficult ones. That act alone may increase the odds that your family will thrive for many generations to come.

This is both inspiring and staggering.

A friend described 20 Photos as ‘making beautiful pictures for our walls’. (And yes, it’s certainly that.) But it’s something more too.

Photos are a unique portal to a moment in time. They open the door to a story that we’ve lived. They spark conversations and hold the space to dive back into that memory when you choose to look at it. They anchor us in who we are.

Making prints of our memories, is akin to making a library of beautiful doors, holding your story and identity.

Beautiful prints, yes, but also with a huge impact.
